TECHNICIAN TUESDAY: Frank Uebelhoer

For this week’s #TechnicianTuesday, we headed over to West Herr Ford of Amherst to meet Diesel Technician, Frank Uebelhoer. Frank has been with West Herr for about eight years now!

Frank says that prior to West Herr, he didn’t have much professional experience with being a technician but knew that he always wanted to work with cars. His everyday truck was a diesel, and he enjoyed working on it when needed and learning about the mechanics. From there, Frank decided to join an auto program at BOCES while in high school. Upon graduating, he then applied to West Herr, and the rest is history!

Frank mentions he always knew West Herr was one of the biggest employers for technicians, and one day he saw a recruitment ad and decided to apply! Frank mentions from the jump, he always wanted to specifically work on diesel engines. “I like trucks, the way the emissions systems work, it is constantly making me think when I’m trying to fix it,” Frank says.

Frank says there are a handful differences from a diesel truck and a regular truck. “Diesel is definitely more temperamental,” he adds.

Frank says that of his eight years here, one of his favorite memories and traditions are the monthly lunches. “Our manager feeds us real good,” Frank jokes. He says his favorite place to order from is One Eyed Jacks in Lockport, or he loves when they grill right on site!

Outside of work, Frank loves to spend time with his wife & daughter! They own a horse named Thunder, so they love to hang out in the barn and go on horseback rides! He says that his daughter has such a special bond with Thunder, and they are both always so happy to see each other!

Frank mentions that his Shop Foreman, Brian, has really helped him in his time here at West Herr. “If you asked questions and wanted to learn, he would give you all the information he had,” he says. Frank says he’s worked under him the entirety of his tenure.

Frank says that if you want to make it as a technician, you need a really good work ethic. He says one tool that he absolutely cannot work without is his brain!

He adds that throughout his career at West Herr, he has been working at the same dealership, and he doesn’t plan on leaving! “I’m loyal to the Ford brand. I think they are the best manufacture, and I enjoy working on Ford trucks,” Frank says.
