TECHNICIAN TUESDAY: Kyle McCann

For this week’s #TechnicianTuesday, we headed over to West Herr Ford of Rochester to meet Technician, Kyle McCan. Kyle is coming up on eight years on #TeamWestHerr!

Kyle was hired from West Herr while still in high school. He mentioned that he always had an interest in cars, specifically while playing video games, but he never thought he was going to end up working in the automotive industry. Kyle mentioned that if it didn’t end up working out in automotive, he had ambitions to work in the CDC with infectious diseases.

He says that he walked into a dealership with no experience or training, asking if they would be willing to hire him, but unfortunately, he was rejected. After that, he walked into West Herr Ford of Rochester with the same pitch and was hired on the spot. Once West Herr invested in him, he started in the automotive program at Monroe Community College. After two years, Kyle graduated with his associate’s degree in applied sciences and automotive technology!

In the first two years of Kyle’s career, he was an Apprentice Technician, learning and growing under the Senior Master Technician in the shop.  He says that when he first started, he barely knew how to do an oil change. “West Herr really formed me into the Technician I am today,” he adds.

He mentions that everyone he works with is truly like family. “In an industry where it’s kind of every man for themselves, we’re all here to help each other,” Kyle says. Whenever he has a question, he knows her can go to any member of his team for answers, and that they can do the same to him.

Kyle adds that some of his best memories in his time at West Herr is being a President’s Club winner three times! “This year, I’m going for my fourth year,” he says. Kyle says the opportunity to make President’s club as a technician is huge, and he’s not aware of any other company to do that.

When thinking on Kyle’s favorite part of his job, he mentions that he loves that not every day is the same. “You have some dull moments here and there, but it’s always something different. Different job, different repair, different car, it’s always different,” he says.

Outside of work, Kyle stays busy! He and his high school sweetheart just recently got married after nine years together! They also recently bought their first house together, so it has been a very exciting year for them! They also love to spend time with their German Shepard, Panzer!

Kyle wanted to give a shoutout to his Shop Foreman, Mack Brewington. “He’s a wizard, he can figure out pretty much anything,” he says. Kyle says he’s the go-to guy for just about anything, and he’s the guy who helps keep the shop running smoothly.

When looking towards the future, Kyle definitely has a sense of where he would like to end up.  He mentions that while he’s happy where he is, eventually he would love to climb the ladder and land in a management position. “I would absolutely love to grow with this company. I would never want to leave West Herr, they’ve been nothing but good to me,” Kyle says.
