TECHNICIAN TUESDAY: Matthew Battleson
For this week’s Technician Tuesday, we took a trip to West Herr Auto Glass Orchard Park to speak to Glass Technician, Matthew Battleson! Matthew got his start in the auto industry over twenty years ago! He has worked in glass since his first job in automotive and says he “really enjoys doing it”.
Matthew joined Team West Herr nearly six years ago and when asked “Why West Herr?”, he said the “commodore” and team environment was something that stood out to him. “Being a bigger unit and having more outlets to solve issues” were two benefits he found from becoming a part of a larger team, especially now as cars’ design methods become more technologically advanced. Successfully completing challenging tasks as a group are some of Matthew’s favorite memories from during his time here at West Herr.

Upon getting hired and making the transition to West Herr, Matthew says his partner, Michael, was a huge help during the adjustment period, along with Chris Tkaczyk, Director of Collision, who first introduced him to the opening. Matt says his biggest role model is his father, who also worked in glass and influenced his choice to join the industry.
While it’s a newer addition to his toolbox, the cutout tool is one Matthew said he cannot live without. “I really don’t know how we used to do it without that”, he says. Over Matthew’s time in the glass industry, things have changed rapidly, but he says the main difference is the level of difficulty present now.

When he’s not at work, you can find Matthew adventuring outdoors with his family, on camping trips or sitting by the campfire. Matthew also enjoys live music and says the best concert he’s ever been to was Rob Zombie, where he was lucky enough to see him perform in a small local bar! Matt is a Buffalo native.
He has two cats, Rambo and Cam and a dog named Lily.
Cheers to you, Matthew! We are so lucky to have you on #TeamWestHerr and wish you nothing but success!
