TECHNICIAN TUESDAY: Peter Nigro
For this week’s Technician Tuesday, we headed over to West Herr Collision Center Lancaster to meet Collision Technician, Peter Nigro. Peter has been in the automotive industry for over twenty years now and on Team West Herr for almost two now!
Peter said he never really planned on starting in the automotive industry twenty years ago. In fact, he was enrolled at a community college to obtain his associate’s degree, but he was unsure of what area of study he wanted to focus on. He was looking through the courses that ECC offered, saw that they had an Auto Body Program and decided to give it a shot! All these years later, Peter never looked back.
He says that he is very happy with his decision to try out this career field, because it got him to where he is today. “I love that no two jobs are the same. It could be similar hit, but a totally different process. Each job is a new adventure,” Peter mentions. He jokes that he didn’t want to become a Mechanical Technician with hopes that Collision Technician would be a little cleaner of an environment, but that is not the case!
Peter began working at West Herr about two years ago when West Herr acquired the Volkswagen dealership in Bowmansville, NY. He stated he has worked in the building for about twelve years and is happy that he is able to stay and continue his career with West Herr.
In Peter’s two years at West Herr, there are a lot of good memories that he’s had along the way. He says he loves the cookouts that his store does together because it brings a sense of family into the workplace. “I love the fact that even though we are a large employer, we still have that small family feel,” Peter says.
When Peter isn’t working, he’s spending a lot of time with his family! Peter and his wife have their hands full with three kids and a cat! He and his family love to go to car shows, especially the Cars & Coffee shows! Peter mentions that if he’s working on a project at home, his two younger sons always have to have a hand in wanting to help!
In Peter’s time here, he mentions that working under Christopher Tkaczyk, Michael Walters and the whole management team has really helped him learn the West Herr Way. He mentions that the “West Herr Way,” wasn’t very far off from his work ethic prior to joining the team.
Looking into the future, Peter mentions that he continues to work on his I-CAR to expand his certifications. He says that he one day hopes to shift to an office type position, like a Service Writer, but for now, while he is still physically able to, he loves what he is doing! One thing that Peter enjoys is being able to be a mentor to shop apprentices and being able to pass down his knowledge from the last twenty years.
Peter has such a great attitude and is a great addition to #TeamWestHerr! Keep up the great work, Peter!
