WEST HERR WEDNESDAY: Amiya Torres

For this week’s #WestHerrWednesday, we headed over to West Herr Chevrolet of Williamsville to meet Sales Consultant, Amiya Torres! Amiya has been on Team West Herr for almost three years now!

When Amiya was in college, she was unsure of what career path she would take. She was perusing a degree in Business Marketing and had a friend who was completing an internship with West Herr’s IT department. After speaking to him about his experience she figured she would give the dealership life a shot! Amiya met with General Manager of West Herr Chevrolet of Williamsville at the time, Kevin Hahn, who offered her a position as a Sales Assistant!

Amiya mentions that she had no plans to go into car sales, but she is glad she did! “Once I got started at West Herr, I realized how much I loved the environment and the people. It just felt right,” she adds. She says her family has always bought cars from West Herr, so if she was going to try any dealership, it would have to be West Herr. “Growing up in Western New York, West Herr is just a household name,” Amiya says.

Amiya mentions all her favorite memories of her time at West Herr are always with her co-workers. One that sticks out is the way her team goes all out for their Halloween costumes! Last year, the entire store dressed up as Willy Wonka & Oompa Loompas! “Every day is enjoyable here,” Amiya adds. She says that it truly doesn’t even feel like work.

Amiya attributes a lot of her growth and success to her supportive collogues. One in specific she would like to shout out is Sales Consultant, Joe LaTona! Joe is now at our Chevrolet store in Hamburg, but originally trained Amiya and took her on as his Sales Assistant. “If it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t be as successful as I am right now,” she says.

Outside of work, Amiya loves to surround herself with friends & family! She loves to spend time with her boyfriend, going on date nights & relaxing together. A fun fact about Amiya is that she is bilingual, speaking both English & Spanish! This has come in handy quite a bit for Amiya as there are only a handful of Spanish speaking employees at her store. “Customers often ask for me directly, and it feels great to be able to help bridge the gap,” Amiya says.

When asking Amiya her favorite part of her job, she quickly answers, “working with people.” She says that everyone is so different, and it’s rewarding to be a part of such an important moment in a customer’s life.

Looking towards the future, Amiya is motivated to become the best Sales Consultant she can be. The next goal she would like to achieve for herself is to make President’s Club! She mentions that one day in the future, she would like to potentially explore management, but for now, she is loving where she’s at.

Amiya says that for anyone looking into starting a career in car sales, the most important piece of advice is to just be yourself. “The car will sell itself, but people but from people they like and trust,” she says.
