TECHNICIAN TUESDAY: Shawn & Jonathan Gardner

For this week’s Technician Tuesday, we headed over to BMW of Rochester to meet Technicians, Shawn & Jonathan Gardner! A pair of brothers who have both chosen the same career path that led them to West Herr!

The pair of brothers were both originally born and raised in the Rochester area but had both left temporarily for schooling & technical training. Jonathan attending a school in Ohio, and Shawn attending one in Pennsylvania! Upon graduation, they had applied for dealerships in the area, and both landed at West Herr!

As the older brother Jonathan had started his career at West Herr a few years prior to Shawn but was excited to learn Shawn wanted to follow in the same path that he had and become a technician. Prior to becoming a technician, Jonathan briefly thought of becoming something in the veterinary field because of his love for animals, but decided automotive was the industry for him.

Jonathan has just recently celebrated his eight-year anniversary at West Herr, and Shawn just celebrated his sixth year here! They both mentioned that when they need assistance or help with anything they often rely on each other for support. Jonathan also mentions his fellow coworkers are also willing to lend a helping hand when needed. “Everyone here is great to work with,” Jonathan mentions.

In their years of working here, Shawn mentioned one of his favorite memories from West Herr was the employee appreciation concert a few years back starring Blake Shelton. “I am a fan of his music and I had super close seats. It was just a cool event to be at,” Shawn says.

When asking Jonathan & Shawn why they both had an interest in working with the BMW brand, they both had very similar answers. Jonathan says he appreciates how clean and pristine the brand and its expectations are. “Our dealership is kept very clean and tidy, I really like that about the BMW brand,” Jonathan says.

Shawn mentions he likes the advanced technology that BMW has to offer as well. “I really enjoy learning about the new models that come out and getting to know how to fix them,” Shawn says. He adds that one of the most rewarding things of being a technician is figuring out a solution to the problem, even if it takes a little while to get there.

While they both love and enjoy their jobs, both Jonathan & Shawn have goals for themselves at West Herr! Jonathan mentions a goal of his is to become Master Technician, and eventually become a Shop Foreman and potentially a Service Manager down the line. Shawn has similar goals as well, hoping one day to become a Shop Foreman!

In their spare time, both of their time is still consumed by cars. Jonathan & Shawn love to fix up and work on their own car collections that they have at home! With the help of his brother, Shawn built his own garage at his house! It is safe to say Jonathan and Shawn are super close & get along very well!
